Title: Executive Director

 

Reports to: PILLAR Board of Directors

 

About PILLAR: The PILLAR Institute for Lifelong Learning is the only independent lifelong learning institute in the Pikes Peak region and southern Colorado.  It is a volunteer-driven membership organization that produces liberal arts and science classes for active, engaged adults who have a zest for learning and community.  For 25 years, PILLAR has created opportunities where older adults can come to socialize, volunteer, and keep their brains active through learning.  More information about PILLAR is available at www.pillarinstitute.org.

 

Mission:  To provide lifelong learning, volunteer, and social opportunities for engaged adults.

Vision:  PILLAR Institute for Lifelong Learning seeks to stimulate adult brain health through interactive learning, volunteer, and social opportunities.

 

Responsibilities: Provide overall management, planning, and leadership to carry out the mission and vision of PILLAR.  Requires working closely with the board to develop strategic direction, programs, plans, policies, and accountability to meet short and long term objectives.

 

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum of 3 years working for a non-profit.

  • Minimum of 3 years experience with financial management of nonprofits. 

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in volunteer supervision.

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in curriculum building.

  • Appreciates and has a desire to serve older adults. 

  • Understands the importance of providing lifelong learning to the community.

  • Proven ability to communicate and work effectively with volunteers, diverse groups of people, and community partners.  

  • Collaborative leadership style to learn from and leverage the strengths already in place at PILLAR.

  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.  

  • Expertise in Google Suite for Nonprofits and Zoom.

  • Knowledge and troubleshooting of technology, including computers and AV equipment, as technology is a major component of providing PILLAR classes.  

  • Expertise in marketing in today’s environment.

  • Proven ability to communicate through email, social media, and website, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.  

  • Ability to meet/exceed program and financial goals and to maintain financial and corporate records.

  • Willingness to learn how to create a print and online class catalog.

  • Willingness to learn PILLAR’s CRM:  Neon One and to learn website management.

  • Knowledge of QuickBooks is a plus. 

  • Self-starter, disciplined, detail oriented, independent worker.

 

Compensation: $50,000/year
