I can’t believe it is already the first fall class tomorrow. It seems like the month is just flying by.

This week is jam packed! Tuesday is our kickoff with Taste of PILLAR. For only $15 you get a 4 classes and lunch. And you end the day by playing Jeopardy on teams. Wednesday is our day trip to Cripple Creek to see the Homestead House, the old jail, and the cemetery where several ‘soiled doves’ are buried. This is the lead-in for the class on Thursday on Colorado’s Painted Ladies. Thursday afternoon is a panel on Christian Thought in Colorado Springs. We end the week with a book discussion on the untold story of the American spy who helped to win WWII on Friday and the Van Briggle Pottery Tour on Saturday.

Next week has Out of Africa: the Origin and Spread of Modern Humans on Tuesday and Thursday. Also, next week are two special events: Constitution Day with PPCC students reading 4 great founding U.S. documents (free) and The Broken Welcome Mat by internationally known immigration speaker Helen Raleigh who legally immigrated from China and knows both sides of the immigration issue. Both are on Wednesday. Other classes next week are Connecting with the Classics, Greatest Hollywood Romances, and Aches and Pains, No More. Reading the Amendments to the Constitution is cancelled.

And that leads us to our 4th Annual “Around the World with PILLAR” Wine Tasting and Silent Auction Fundraiser. It will be on Monday, September 23rd, 5-7pm, at Joseph’s Fine Dining, 1603 S. 8th St. Tickets are $50 and a portion of the ticket is tax deductible. Enjoy Joseph’s exquisite appetizers, drink wines from around the world or specialty nonalcoholic drinks, all while bidding on great silent auction items.

Today we put together the silent auction and discovered we had over 60 items with more coming in. We realized that this is way too many items to transport to Joseph’s, so we decided to leave some at PILLAR for you to bid on starting tomorrow. Check out the two tables on one wall of the classroom. Think Christmas gifts.

Several of the really nice baskets will be only available on the night of the wine tasting. But to peak your interest, here are a few of our silent auction items:

A full set of Bach CDs worth over $150 from KCME.

Restaurant Gift Certificates to Josephs, Paninos, Colorado Mtn Brewery, The Margarita at Pine Creek, Urban Egg, La Baguette, Bonefish Grill, and more.

Themed baskets – Italian, Mexican, German, Chinese, Irish.

Themed baskets – ‘Movie Night’, ‘Spa Day’, ‘Staycation’, ‘Champagne Delight, ‘Tea for 2’, ‘Murder Mystery’, and more.

Jewelry.

A painting by Hedy duCharme.

We will have a full list of items on our website soon. Don’t miss out on getting your ticket to this fun event. A limited number of tickets are available.

Enjoy your fall term!
